Today I’ve got to grips with just how fast things move in the maternity world. Sort of.

Last Saturday I find out that Mrs JD is pregnant. She goes to the doctors on Tuesday to inform them and start the health service ball rolling. They do a test to confirm everythingís OK and say come back next Monday; oh and by then you MUST have picked the hospital where you want to give birth.
Must we? Ah, OK.
Our local hospital is out of the question, it’s closed it’s paediatric care so if anything went wrong the baby would have to be taken to another hospital. Yay for the NHS.
This gave us the choice of two others, both within an hour’s drive. One of which we have been to previously; and it was dire. The cockroaches had picket lines around the entrance demanding better conditions. Not that I can understand roach or anything, they were handing out leaflets.
Which meant we had a choice of one. We struck lucky, the one we were forced to choose will be opening a whole new centre just a couple of months before our mini-me’s due date. Hurrah.
Looks like a splashy water birth type event. Of course, I’ll be outside taking up smoking.
