Iíve been using 512K ADSL for an age now. Itís a lot better than using 56K modem as it makes the internet usable and entertaining.

56k was never entertaining, it was ñ and only just ñ usable. In the same way that strapping a tortoise to each foot is a usable form of locomotion.

Iíve found that I no longer watch television in the same way since getting ADSL, I only have the TV on if Iím eating or catching up with the news. The rest of the time its ADSL all the way, baby.

The first victim of ADSL, or strapping a Chihuahua to each foot, was the video recorder. It became superfluous pretty quickly. If either of use missed a program I just pulled it from the net, burned it to SVCD and watched it through the DVD player. We no longer even have a video recorder.

The new victim is Satellite TV. I canít justify the cost of it anymore as Sky seems to hike the price every few months. The full package is now a staggering £42 GB pounds a month, or $78.10 US dollars for our American brethren. On top of that is the BBC tax of £10 GB pounds a month.

So Iím reverting to the basic TV service, which is the BBC tax. No escaping that one. With the cash saved Iím upgrading my ADSL package to a slightly speedier 1024K connection, erm, metaphor stretching ahoy; akin to a Collie on each foot?

Update: I cancelled Sky this afternoon, but the conversation with there staff was a classic. I’ll go into it tomorrow, I wish I had it on tape. Oh and it could be 2 weeks before the powers that be upgrade my ADSL. Damn.
