Day Two: Pizza
Both bags and passports were eventually recovered, after that we decided to join the Holiday Repís tour of Sorrento. We coped patiently with the patronising bitch for all of five minutes of the hour and half tour and went for coffee instead. The rest of the day was spent scoping the lie of the land, punctuated by coffee and pizza at regular intervals, and learning how to get from A to B without involving the Rep in the slightest.
The oldest known pizza is from Sorrento, a pizza stall was preserved in Pompeii, Iím a pizza fiend and could out eat a ninja turtle when it comes to flat bread covered in tomatoes and cheese; and Sorrento is the home of pizza. Guess what Iím going to be eating all week. >_<
Also the Margarita Pizza was invented in Sorrento for Queen Margarita. This was on one of her sojourns to the Sorrento to see one of her toy-boys, this sometime in the 17xxís as the exact date eludes me like a greased olive. The pizza here is good, really good. Stupefying good. Given the option of never having a pizza this good ever again or gnawing my own leg off Iíd have salt on my knee in a flash and be looking for the tomato sauce.
On return from our wanderings we were both burnt to a crisp and glowing a blinding red. And by both I mean just me. The early cloud cover had lulled us into a false sense of security and we hadnít taken sun cream. As we reached town we were mugged by the sun leaping out from behind the clouds, it then proceeded to pummel us for the entire day. Iím writing this at night with no illumination other than the florescence of my tender skin. Pregnancy seems to have made Emma immune to the sun, she isnít even slightly red.
This wasnít as bad as accidentally meeting our Rep when we got back from our wanderings. Her dislike of us for ditching her tour quickly iced over into utter mutual hatred as it became clear weíre doing everything on our own and wouldnít be buying her tours; this meant she got no tour commission. Joy.
Tomorrow the plan is either to do Pompeii / Vesuvius / Herculaneum or the island of Capri.
