Guardian Unlimited | The Guardian | Harry Potter and the wizard idea to foil cinema pirates
Oh dear, how pathetic, and I don’t mean the film. So this is what it has come to, the disinterested spotty oik cinema staff have been given night vision goggles ‘to spot people copying the movie.’
Each showing is watermarked and coded too. This is the most protected film in cinema history, and I’ll let you know something right now; it won’t stop it getting copied. Expect HP3 on a bittorrent, emule, kazaa and so on, near you soon.
‘But is it any good though?’ Anyone who has read the books knows that 3 and 4 are the best stories. The film has more to work with and uses the extra depth well, not only is this the best Harry Potter movie by far, it is also a good movie in its own right. Infinitely better than the awful Troy, for example.
In something of a shock, the young actors are far less wooden than in 1 and 2, the movie is darker overall, faster and looks great. Alfonso wasn’t put off by the scope of the movie and has managed to make a film that fans will love, and everyone else can sit through without too much complaint.
There are a few niggles though, it’s never explained how Lupin knows how work the Marauders map, Harry’s Stag is only shown once (it was time travel, the scene should have been the same both times) and I bet more, though that’s all i recall right now.
It’s good, go see it. Just remember to thump the spotty cinema oik who looks like something out of Splinter Cell.
