The goal this morning was to write about life. Full of analogy and wit; I would hope. It seems I have forgotten what I was about to say though; my tale vanished with the Apple logo on boot up. I thought Apple’s were supposed to aid creativity.

Thoughts somehow sidestep me these days, the solid and dependable are turned to quicksilver with wings. Flitting away without notice or a forwarding address, and without paying the milkman.

I hope this is just an age thing and nothing more, I guess I shall see. I’m sat here, unable to sleep, trying to wring a thought from my head, it was something to do with how we, individually and collectively, view the world. Life, as I said.

Life can be a wonder, or a torment and I’ve had snapshots of both. I’ve been homeless, for a few weeks once in London I slept on various people’s floors or wandered around until daybreak came again. Amazing how fast that makes you paranoid. I’ve been stabbed too, albeit by the inept, the knife hardly broke my skin. I think the muggers need to work on there knifing skills, ‘C-, must stab harder.’ Oh and later … well, you get the picture.

It’s the wonders that are harder to recall, but I have them and this isn’t a lament. This is typing while I hope my head sorts itself out so I can make my original point. If it doesn’t this will be a historic meander, hope you brought a tent.

The wonders then eh, ah yes those wonders. Though if you have read this far I doubt I misdirect you now, or even can bore you into submission; so I had better be more direct. Being alive, having Em, Bump, the cats and the PowerBook. It was a good list until the PowerBook, can’t escape the material quite as well as Jack. I am Jack’s guilty materialism.

Did I make a point? Hard to say really, life is what you make it? Always a silver lining? A rolling stone gathers no haystacks or needles? Well, I’ll leave a space at the end, perhaps you can fill your own point in.
