Well duh, there are only so many decent songs around, it is bound to tail off to a large extent. Expect the same for movies, the most traded files will be the new releases, the rest will be the background buzz.
There is NO evidence that file trading hurts the music industry or the movie business. For example, Spider-Man 2 just had the largest opening in history and yes it is on bittorrent IRC and elsewhere.
I never quite got the fuss about online copying, it been happening for years, and the world is still turning, right?
