CNN - Moore booed at the Republican Conference

August 31st, 2004 · No Comments

Moore Booed
Of course Moore was booed, did anyone NOT expect that to happen? Moore was there to report on the conference for the USA Today. He didn’t attract attention, he was lambasted in a speech and the crowd turned to him chanting ‘Four more years!’ for Bush.
Moore raises his hands and laughing chants back to [...]

Turn your PC into a Mac - Engadget - www.engadget.com
A post for you Windows users, huzzah.
I bring you two ways to make your Windows XP install into OS X, kinda:
1) Skin it. Use the above guide to kit out your PC GUI with Apple niceness. This is pretty painless if you stick to StyleXP and [...]

What to Backup on OS X

August 30th, 2004 · No Comments

Here’s the rough and ready version of the What to Backup on OS X guide. This will no doubt change over time. No direct linking please.

What to Backup on OS X

It’s rough, it will have omissions and maybe mistakes; but I used this to rebuild my PowerBook and lost nothing I needed, so it has [...]

gCount
I mentioned gMail notification programs the other day, the best I’ve come across for OS X is gCount from www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~natan/gcount/
It sits up by your clock, works, looks good and I have zero complaints about it.
Sweet.

Backup OS X

August 29th, 2004 · No Comments

Decided to rebuild my PowerBook today, a periodic defluff of the hard disk. This is only the second time I’ve rebuilt OS X from scratch so I had to do a little research.
I googled for ‘What to back up on OS X’ and various similar phrases and found very little that -
- Wasn’t selling backup [...]

Tight VNC

August 28th, 2004 · No Comments

The ultimate in lazy, Mrs JD calls it. ‘Why?’ She asks, I look blankly back at her. ‘Oh I see,’ she says in her resigned tone, ‘just because.’
I’ve set up remote control between the Mac and the PC, so I can control the PC from anywhere in the house. For free using open source software.
On [...]

Parential Units

August 28th, 2004 · No Comments

Mrs JD has gone into nesting mode. The kitchen has been rearranged, as has the lounge. If this continues I may not recognise the house. The resident dust bunnies are terrified and have sought refuge in the, so far untouched, office.
My parents came up to visit today, they’ve been up a lot recently - bump [...]
