Arrived at the hospital after surviving something I think is peculiarly English, the diversion to nowhere. This is when the normal route that you would drive is closed, with a large - and misleading - diversion sign cheerfully pointing in the direction you are supposed to take.
Hope over experience, I follow the sign, and another, and one more, then … nothing. You are left on a road you have never seen before and have no clue how to reach where you are supposed to be. When you have a pregnant wife in the car, it is dark and pouring with rain, and in minutes you may go from one passenger to two, this isn’t the best situation to be in.
So she was placed onto the monitor, and we waited, waited in fact until after 1am as the baby’s heartbeat was high, they monitored for so long to make sure that all was OK; they assured us it was fine and then sent us home. We got back home a shade after 2am, only to have a phone call from the hospital at 6:30am.
‘We may have been wrong, it might not be fine. Come back in for more monitoring.’ Crap.
So we’ve spent all morning in the hospital and been told everything is OK and to come in as scheduled for the induction tomorrow. The induction itself takes on average three days, so I’m expecting the baby to appear on Saturday. This baby thing isn’t easy you know …
