19 Day Blog Promotion: The Results

November 7th, 2004 · No Comments

Back on the 19th of October I wondered if you could promote a blog using nothing more than RSS, Listing Sites and Pings.

So I gathered all the information I could (in one evening) about how to go about promoting the site, noted the hit counter for the first 19 days of October - 7691 - and started the 19 Day Blog Promotion.

As I said at the time, this is the lazy way to promotion. No great skill is required, no investment of time above and beyond the initial short setup. Remember people are saying these methods of promotion work. So did it work? Is using RSS, Link Sites and Pings the sure fire way to promote your blog?

Nope.

Here’s the results:

Date-Day-Hits
20 1 475
21 2 513
22 3 444
23 4 534
24 5 497
25 6 420
26 7 428
27 8 138
28 9 163
29 10 397
30 11 428
31 12 482
1 13 312
2 14 442
3 15 581
4 16 421
5 17 451
6 18 432
7 19 526

Total Hits: 8084

So the total is under the 9000 level, the level that I pegged as the ’success’ criteria. So nearly 400 more hits in 19 days - which could be possible with no promotion at all.

There are much better ways to promote your blog, some of them are constructive, like community participation, and others are a pain for others to deal with, such as comment spamming.

Is there a phase two to this? Possibly.
