Google Press Center: Zeitgeist
Google’s end of year Zeitgeist, formed from the billions of searches made during 2004.
It may come as no big surprise but the most frequent searches are sex related. It’s US centric, but then Google is a US focused company; it’s the largest market after all. A smaller version for international searches is at [www.google.com/press/intl-zeitgeist.html#uk]
I wonder just how censored the Zeitgeist is. As visual output from Google is censored, like the Google sign in the company lobby, are these really the most popular searches, or the edited family friendly version.
I bet anything on the latter - the most popular searches would be explicitly sexual.

How do you mean “visually censored” - is one unable to take a photo of the google lobby sign?

Pre-defined phrases and words don’t appear on the sign. Bastard would be a no-no, so would Gibbon.
