I can back up this on personal anicdote. Engadget is running a story about how the Shuffle has sold out everywhere. This is across the UK and USA, and Apple fulfills USA orders before any international ones so it looks like we are in for a long wait here in the UK.
Last Friday I was in Liverpool where there are two large Apple resellers, neither had the 1GB Shuffle, the one I wanted. Both had 4 week waiting times for new stock. The demand for the Shuffle is outstripping supply - by a lot.
Annoying.
So I’ve ordered one from the Apple Store, 3 weeks for it to arrive. Sigh.
Edit: 3 Feb 05 Its turned out to be four weeks not three, so it is another two weeks and one day before my Shuffle arrives. I’m wondering what people are filling the 1GB Shuffle with other than music.

1 GB USB 2 stick approx 70 quid
1 GB USB 2 stick with MP3, Apple interface and iTunes 99 quid
Well worth the extra 30 quid
