The Sinister Shuffle Shortage - The Plot Revealed!

February 4th, 2005 · No Comments

Part Duex.

I’ve come up with a theory regarding the Apple Shuffle shortage. No it isn’t a ploy for PR, nor is it Apple’s continuing inablity to plan for demand. It is in fact all a sinister plot worthy of Dick Dasterdly.

Apple produced so few Shuffle’s so that the wait time would annoy people so much they would upgrade the order to the full iPod; making Apple richer.

Well OK, perhaps not, but it worked for me. Yes I’ve cancelled my order for the 1GB Shuffle and placed an order for the 20GB iPod. Instead of an indeterminate wait (Four weeks, which is forever) Apple’s website states 24 hours for delivery.

Things were going well until the Apple rep on the phone said ‘That will be with you in 3 to 7 days.’ This suprised me, so sounding as suprised as a penguin in the desert I replied, ‘You’re website says 24 hours…’
‘Yes the order will go through in 24 hours, the dispatch will take 3 to 7 days.’

Colour me confused, I had the belief that 24 hours meant one day - not 3 to 7 days. Apple time is like Welsh road signs, unfathomable.
