Top 100 v3 – lazy author has started it

June 26th, 2005 · 2 Comments

Started work on this, as always it’s going to take a little while to complete but this time I’ll be releasing it as a PDF and OpenOffice document.

I’m still looking for up to 100 word reviews on whatever your favourite app for OS X happens to be. The aim is to give a brief on the app and an outline of why it is good. So for example my review of Open Office would look like this:

NeoOffice J http://www.openoffice.org
Jackdaw, http://www.creationrobot.com
A full office application for free that loads and saves Microsoft Word and Excel documents, and XML formatted documents. It’s very compatible, free and legal. It looks like a poor cousin compared to Microsoft Office and iWork but don’t let that fool you, and when it eventually loads it runs well. If you know Microsoft Office well it’s going to take time to get used to NeoOffice, the GUI and menus are different and useful Office features are missing or don’t work as well, like numbering. For anyone not willing to buy Microsoft Office this is perfect.

Don’t forget to include your nick and site URL. Post the reviews to here or email them to me, address in the Top 100 v2 PDF, see the top of the window. I’m betting I don’t get any of these through but still, worth a shot.

Thanks for the nice comment, have you tried Disk Order?

As for pre publish, that’s not a bad idea – I might do that for the core Top 100 and publish the list as a ‘Beta’ for people to yell over. Then again maybe not, the list gets huge download volumes but very little feedback – which as I understand it is the norm.

    Hi,

really enjoyed your list, I still hope a new version will surprise me and show a good alternative for Total Commander. Do you plan to pre-publish a list of programs that are already on their way to the list?
