I don’t like Norton’s products, anything released under Symantec is particularly bad but McAfee has issues too. It’s my opinion, I say this both from my personal and professional experience.
As background, I have been the antivirus team lead in a global IT firm, managing AV across the whole of EMEA. (Europe, Middle East and Africa). I’m currently employed as an information security consultant for another global IT firm.
In short, I know what I’m talking about.
Open Source antivirus is in its infancy, but it deserves to be fed and petted - allowing it to grow. This is why I promoted Clam AV [http://www.creationrobot.com/?p=871]
and will continue to promote them, despite the immaturity of the solution.
Imagine my surprise then when my post on Clam AV receives SPAM from two users, 10 minutes apart, using the same IP address - 67.97.80.1 - promoting McAfee and Symantec. How very dodgy, not that I suggest Norton would directly employee a spammer (I dislike lawsuits) but …
has anyone else received this SPAM while promoting open source security solutions?
