Google Talk via iChat on OS X

August 24th, 2005 · 1 Comment

Edit: The official Google howto for iChat is now up - www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24076

I’ve revised this with updated info from /.

The basic setup is:

server: talk.google.com or gmail.com (slower)
username: youregooglemailname@google.com
password: yourgmailpassword

The connection port should be 5222, but with SSL on, iChat only wants to allow 5223. To fix this, I went into my Airport Admin utility and then forwarded all private requests for 5223 through public 5222.
