USA at war with the UN

Utterly unbelievable.

Let me revise that. Utterly believable and expected.

It’s just that everyone not leaning toward neoconservative world Americanisation really hoped that Bolton wouldn’t do this - I guess Bush really did have a set agenda which is why he pushed so hard to get Bolton as the UN ambassador.

Mr Bolton has demanded no fewer than 750 amendments to the blueprint restating the ideals of the international body, which was originally drafted by the UN secretary general, Kofi Annan.

750? Is this some kind of surreal filibuster?

Most strikingly, the changes eliminate all specific reference to the so-called Millennium Development Goals, accepted by all countries at the last major UN summit in 2000, including the United States.

The Americans are also seeking virtually to remove all references to the Kyoto treaty and the battle against global warming.

… and drawing a red line through any suggestion that the nuclear powers should dismantle their arsenals. Instead, the US is seeking to add emphasis to passages on fighting terrorism and spreading democracy.

Remove promise to help relieve poverty, disease and improve global education standards. Keep the poor and sick down.
Check.

Remove 0.7% aid link to GNP, the richer the country the more they pay toward aid. They’re poor for a reason, after all.
Check.

Remove the goal to aid developing nations join the WTO. No more in the boys club, thanks.
Check.

Remove references to the Kyoto Treaty and anything else that could help reduce global warming. Global warming? Who believes that?
Check.

Remove the proposed International Criminal Court that could tackle such people as Milosevic and Saddam. Create more international prisons outside international control, it works great.
Check.

Remove the proposal on decommissioning of nuclear weaponry. No take my fire stick. Ug.
Check.

Add in the spurious bogyman of terrorism. Mustn’t mention Geor …
Check.

Bolton is chauffeured home with a happy content glow inside, job done. Welcome to the neo-con revision of the UN. Diplomacy is taking a back seat to who yells the loudest.

It’s going to be interesting to see the UNs reaction to this, to say the least. Watching the political bun fight will reveal the future direction of the UN. America isn’t bad, or evil. No, honestly. Americans are, broadly speaking, really nice people. It’s just they have this faulty gene that makes them vote in people that are don’t act nice globally.

Bush himself seems like a personable guy, I think he really does love America. He just dislikes the rest of the world, and that’s a shame for the majority of the earth occupants.
