Cyberpunk started me writing, firing the third eye of the imagination that led to inane scrawls of graphite on dead wood. That was back in the 1980’s, perhaps the early 90’s.
Since then I’ve written two cyberpunk stories, and five fantasy (urban fantasy/horror) ones. I find fantasy easier to write for some reason, I blame Charles De Lint. Should I meet him I will throw mirrored shades at his head, or a steam driven typewriter.
So it shouldn’t send you into frothing shock that I imbibe cyberpunk at every opportunity, a genre that has mutated beyond its inital distopia into something far more complex. This is a look at the future past, the future that was and can never be. Enjoy.
Anything that can be done to a rat can be done to a human being. And we can do most anything to rats. This is a hard thing to think about, but it’s the truth. It won’t go away because we cover our eyes.
This is cyberpunk. — Bruce Sterling
