I’ve read a number of articles about Second Life, thought I’d try a free account on it, just so I knew what it was about first hand. You go through the signup until it asks you for a credit card. Free account with mandatory credit card entry, anyone see the issue here? Age verification? Don’t trot that out, that’s there by choice as enough alternatives exist.
I lost interest at once, deleted the Second Life app from my PowerBook and moved on.
Reading MeFi earlier, I’ve read it on and off for a while now, I thought it was about time I contributed. I did the same with Slashdot, I read it for a long time before I eventually joined, karma excellent. MeFi won’t allow you to create an account unless you pay them five US dollars.
“Keep in mind this is a donation towards the server, and not a purchase. If you sign up an account to pimp your product, act like an ass, or generally just do things that break the guidelines you will be booted and there will be no refunded donations.â€
Thanks but no thanks. I don’t want to HAVE to pay or be forced to provide access to my credit card. If I want to I will donate, anyone forcing the issue loses me. I can easily do without either of the above.
