Canada Day 2

Day Two

Well today was our first full day in Vancouver. Went to sleep about 6:30 PM and got up at 6AM - it seems we have all adjusted to canadian time overnight. Sort of, Robyn had us up at 2AM, so I took a couple of photos of the street before getting back to bed. We drank the hotel coffee when we arrived so this morning I got two coffees from Starbucks and breakfast from a local bakery which I brought back to the suite. The local bakery was weird, although it was open I had to ask for everything I wanted as nothing was out, some homeless looking guy was in there trying to shut up his Jack Russel, which eventually the chinese shopkeeper did by throwing it a roll.

After breakfast we walked down Davie toward the beach, although we were stopped before we got there by a Safeways Supermarket, a brand we know from the UK. So we went into there for supplies. Some things much cheaper, some more expensive, life balances out that way I guess. Loaded down we headed back to the hotel so Robyn could sleep and we could fry Canadian Maple Bacon.

We’re all physically exhausted so we decided to just walk around and take in the local area. We walked a big loop down Davie, Burrard, Robson and cut across back to Davie via Broughton. It was throwing it down with rain,
something Manchester and Vancouver very much have in common. The only hassle was Robson St., some nutter was shouting his head off and basically being insane. Drugs seem to have really having a bad effect in Vancouver. It’s one of the things we’ve noticed since we were last here.

The other thing is the volume of homeless people, in a lot of ways Vancouver is now like a mini London - homelessness and drugs have a visible presence on the streets. Although the vancouver view is astounding, unlike London that can only boast of its architecture.

It’s 23:42 according to my body, 15:47 according to the microwave in the Kitchen, Robyn’s asleep, Em is reading a magazine on the sofa and I’m typing this - awaiting our Internet connection box to arrive. Stupid hotel doesn’t have enough boxes for every room and all of them are out.

Oh and my wife is constantly telling me off as I’m apparently ’speaking Canadian.’ For some reason I pick up accents like a sponge, I can’t help it, its some unconscious thing. Eh, what ya going to do.

Tonight we might eat out, though I think we’re way over budget for the day.
