Pubs in new 24-hour opening era

November 24th, 2005 · No Comments

Currently I can’t see this making any sort of immediate difference to British binge drinking culture. Why? I hear you slur across your packet of pork scratchings. Look at the figures, I reply with an annoying smugness.

1,121 establishments will have 24-hour licences and of these 359 are pubs or clubs — BBC

Lets assume that 70% of that number of pubs, as the number of pubs massivly outweighs the number of clubs, that makes 251 pubs opening 24 hours.

251, across the whole of England. There is a street in Eccles, near Manchester, with nearly that number of pubs on it. Until this is adpoted far more widely it won’t make any difference at all.
