  Although come to think of it, that characterization of Candide is wrong, in the end he’s beaten down and gives up and assumes a simple life. Those uneducated simplifiers! Anyhow, sorry to spam up your blog. :0

  Other sources site 32 plots, an interesting read is Joseph Campbell’s ‘The Hero with a thousand faces.’ More about characters than plot but the same thing applies; only a few building blocks to go from.

  It’s not the plot but how you tell it.
