It’s looking like Windows Vista (Windows NT 5.4? It’s built off the aging Windows 2003 codebase.) is going to finally make it out the door — even if it is as a Community Technology Preview — in January. No doubt it will hit bittorent the same day and at last a near feature complete Vista can be tried out by the masses.
Is this to little too late? Vista has a bad reputation already due to its delays, ditched features and, worst of all, its aging codebase. New OS? No, it’s another build of Windows 2003 with a revised GUI.

Vista is the 2003/XP codebase with a new GUI. It may officially get called 6 yet, but it’s not a new OS.
