Discovering Sherlock Holmes

January 29th, 2006 · No Comments

I love reading and watching Sherlock Holmes. I have the reprints of Strand Magazine in one giant hardback and whenever a Jeremy Brett or Basil Rathbone is on I stop to watch it.

The London of the times is as fascinating to me as Sherlock himself, the fog, the class system and the technology - written as though it were all cutting edge stuff - which of course it was when Sir ACDoyle was putting pen to paper.

Stanford are doing some PDF reprints of Strand, along with some great background reading. It’s well worth looking at, even if you have found the great detective hard to get into before.
