No XP on Intel Macs, but Vista is good to go

January 12th, 2006 · No Comments

32bit Windows XP will need some serious hacking to work on the new Apple MacBooks, but Windows Vista will work with no problems.

This is all due to the boot types, no BOIS on the MacBook, they are using Extensible Firmware Interface (EFI) which the aging XP knows nothing about as EFI was invented after XP went into service.

Windows Vista is XP version 2, or NT 5.5, or Windows 2006 — whatever, it is built on Windows 2003 code. Vista will also be EFI so is compatible with the MacBook. Vista Beta will be well tried out as soon as people get the MacBook.

iLife 06 is shipping, feel free to try it on the torrents that are doing the rounds, buy it if you think it’s good. The new iPhoto alone is worth me buying 06.
