399 Enzo’s on the wall, you take one down …

Only 398 left, this is the story that’s been flashing round the blogs this morning, from boingboing to engadget and onto the car sites like jalopnik.

Stefan Eriksson — the former Gizmondo executive who stepped down amidst allegations of his involvement in the Uppsala Mafia Swedish organized crime ring, and who perhaps most embodied the internal corruption of Tiger Telematics — no longer has his 2003 Ferrari Enzo

According to the former exec. a German man called Dietrich–who fled the scene–was driving the car. That’s convenient considering that Mr. Eriksson’s blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit. The car, which was travelling at around 192km/h, mounted an embankment, became airborne and was sheared in two on collision with a pole. Apparently the car was taking part in a street race with a Mercedes SLR, a $677,500 car.

The Enzo was invite only, they were not sold openly, so the sticker price does not reflect the true value, these cars traded for one to two million dollars each.

The story gets stranger than a failed company and Swedish mafia:

It is believed that he was the one driving. he had a busted lip and both airbags went off and only the driver side airbag had blood on it. He may have switched positions to make it appear as though someone else was driving. Not to mention that it is his car and even with an air search this other person has not been located or seen by anyone. Crazy stuff going on man.

The police are somewhat skeptical of the supposed missing driver, a German known only as Dietrich.
