I saw one of Richard Dawkins The Root of All Evil? when it was aired, it was an interesting program but I thought nothing more of it. After all, diverse and educational programming is a part of Channel 4’s remit, so this program didn’t stand out. It’s just what we expect from Channel 4. That and dumb reality shows, but we’ll ignore that.

Thinking about it though this is a mainstream terrestrial channel that is attacking not only the state religion but all religions. How many countries would make and air this kind of program?

From the vantage point of the United States, the program is remarkable: You simply would never encounter such a brazen denunciation of religious faith on this country’s airwaves, because the outcry from the religious right would be deafening. Dawkins’s narration drips with contempt; as he goes about his rounds, it’s as if he can hardly restrain himself from shouting, “I’m surrounded by IDIOTS!” The smoke coming out of his ears leaves a trail behind him wherever he goes.

America wouldn’t air a program like this this nationally, pretty much all Muslim countries wouldn’t air it at all - the extremists in the USA and Islam would denounce such a program and be up in arms. I reccomend you get the torrent for Root of All Evil?, available from the link below. I glad that Britain can make and air such a program and nothing is made of it, a nothing that should be held on to.
