The Troops Want Home. Now.

March 1st, 2006 · No Comments

MeFi has a thread on the Troop poll that’s doing the rounds.

US Troop poll results in: 72% of American troops serving in Iraq think the U.S. should exit the country within the next year, and nearly one in four say the troops should leave immediately. In other news, 58% of Americans think the troops should stay. Back to the troops: 85% said the U.S. mission is mainly “to retaliate for Saddam’s role in the 9-11 attacks,” 77% said they also believe the main or a major reason for the war was “to stop Saddam from protecting al Qaeda in Iraq.”

Information from the Zogby poll states:

# Le Moyne College/Zogby Poll shows just one in five troops want to heed Bush call to stay “as long as they are needed”
# While 58% say mission is clear, 42% say U.S. role is hazy
# Plurality believes Iraqi insurgents are mostly homegrown
# Almost 90% think war is retaliation for Saddam’s role in 9/11, most don’t blame Iraqi public for insurgent attacks
# Majority of troops oppose use of harsh prisoner interrogation
# Plurality of troops pleased with their armor and equipment

A overwhelming majority of 72% of American troops serving in Iraq think the U.S. should exit the country within the next year, and nearly one in four say the troops should leave immediately

The majority of Americans still buy into the ‘Attack Saddam because of 9/11′ rubbish? Really? Wow. For anyone yelling ‘Support our troops!’ in America, what that means is get the troops out of Iraq. They want to come home. Now. Are you still supporting your troops? The poll seems legit.

This really isn’t just a dig at America, the UK has troops there too. The UK citizens were against the troops going, against the war. It goes to show how feeble public opinion can be, and how utterly apathetic Parliament, the Lords and voters can become. The war in Iraq has done nothing but damage, at least so far. What are the odds of this turning around and becoming something positive?

George W Bush: “We’ve had no evidence that Saddam Hussein was involved with the September 11th” Sept. 17th 2003.

I’m not sure anything positive can be made of this mess, Iraq is drifting into theocracy and civil war.
