Google: We’ll store everything, for everyone

March 7th, 2006 · No Comments

Leaked internal Google notes have revealed some of Google’s future plans. - The goal is to become central to user activity online, the hub of the Internet - Search, email, chat, video, shopping, newsgroups, maps and directions, blogging, image editing, websites, and much more is already available from Google. - Google will take on eBay auctions and Paypal online payments with Google base Still to come: - Bookmarking, like del.icio.us - Web history (? – Prvacy advocates will tell you how dangerous this is) - Pictures, like .mac or Flickr - Infinite user file storage (Most likely limited at first)
Google is moving toward being able to “store 100% of user data,” the notes indicate, citing, “emails, Web history, pictures, bookmarks” as a few examples. Any timeline is unclear. The internal notes say Google’s “store 100%” scenario would be made possible if Google had “infinite storage.”
Do you really want to be in a position where Google has a hand in everything online? Or are you happy that Google can have so much information on you? If there’s a big market, like eBay, Google is unfurling a tentacle toward it. Link
