IBM: ‘We will not use Windows Vista.’ Moves to Red Hat.

March 8th, 2006 · No Comments

This applies to Eastern half of Europe right now. But if it’s successful I can imagine this pilot will be applied throughout Europe, and probably the rest of IBM. Imagine the savings to IBM, and the loss of revinue to Microsoft.

As the linked article says, if IBM can do this then so can other business. Could this be the first uber migration from Microsoft?

“Andreas Pleschek also told that IBM has cancelled their contract with Microsoft as of October this year. That means that IBM will not use Windows Vista for their desktops. Beginning from July, IBM employees will begin using IBM Workplace on their new, Red Hat-based platform. Not all at once - some will keep using their present Windows versions for a while. But none will upgrade to Vista.”
