Apple – Boot Camp

April 5th, 2006 · No Comments

Apple seems to have waited until a successful hack was released before releasing Boot Camp. The official boot and driver pack allowing you to run Windows XP on Mac hardware.

Apple-Windows

Considering Apple hardware seems to be about the fastest around for running XP this has to be good news.

Note the Apple digs at the hacker cludge and Microsoft’s reliance on BIOS. Also, isn’t the Apple version of the Windows logo far better than Microsoft’s?

Apple Setup

From Apple:

“For your convenience, Boot Camp burns a CD with all the Mac-specific drivers for Windows:
Boot Camp lets you install Windows XP without moving your Mac data, though you will need to bring your own copy to the table, as Apple Computer does not sell or support Microsoft Windows.(1) Boot Camp will burn a CD of all the required drivers for Windows so you don’t have to scrounge around the Internet looking for them.

Macs use an ultra-modern industry standard technology called EFI to handle booting. Sadly, Windows XP, and even the upcoming Vista, are stuck in the 1980s with old-fashioned BIOS. But with Boot Camp, the Mac can operate smoothly in both centuries.

For your convenience, Boot Camp burns a CD with all the Mac-specific drivers for Windows:

* Graphics
* Networking
* Audio
* AirPort wireless
* Bluetooth
* The Eject key (on Apple keyboards)
* Brightness control for built-in displays”

Via everywhere.

    It’s all over the net, but Creation Robot has a very nice summary of the dual boot option from Apple, including some of Apple’s commentary on how Windows XP and Vista boot. Read it to enjoy it. Apple’s Press Release is here. One of my office mates already did it. Totally painless. Works like
