Firefox memory leak - a temporary fix through a simple edit

April 10th, 2006 · 2 Comments

Firefox has a memory leak that been present for a long time, memory usage can reach pretty high, 180MB plus.

After this little edit when you minimise Firefox memory usage will drop to 10MB, on un-minimising it won’t be anything like as high as it was, around 60MB.

# Open Firefox and go to the Address Bar. Type in about:config and then press Enter.
# Right Click in the page and select New -> Boolean.
# In the box that pops up enter config.trim_on_minimize. Press Enter.
# Now select True and then press Enter.
# Restart Firefox.
