The nonsense about AdSense - Markets - Times Online

April 10th, 2006 · 3 Comments

Adsense problems seem to be stacking up these days. I’ve not had any of the issues that the piece in the Times mentions but I do have a lot of problems with Google secrecy.

Who clicks on what?
Why do you get paid the amount you do?
Exactly what are the keywords that pay out?
What constitutes click fraud?

Then a few months ago, I got chatting about my experiences with Google’s AdSense product with some friends in the industry and it became apparent that the false allegations of fraud were not unique to my business. I also learnt that some advertisers claim that money they spent on “fraudulent clicks” was never returned to them.

Adsense sounds as secure as Paypal - which I never leave money in for more than 2 seconds - and I don’t like having money sat with Google. When Yahoo finally gets round to the general release of its text ads I might use them. Otherwise I’m kinda stuck with Adsense.

Doesn’t Google make just about all of its money with adsense?

The last ‘concrete’ figure I read was that just a shade over 50% of google income is Adsense. They really need it, and it seems protect it from questioning with a butal ferocity.
