Top 15 grown-up - the world adult has other connotations - animated movies. The list could be overty heavy on the manga as Japan has accepted animation as a mature medium far longer than the UK or the US. It seems to have concentrated on worldwide animation.
I love Akira, I saw one of the first showings of this movie outside Japan, a three hour drive to the cinema showing it, an arty flea pit at Demontford Hall University Leicester. I’d been buying the manga on a month by month basis for a long time and the background knowledge from that added a lot to the movie.
