The first mainstream flash drive laptop is on its way, Samsung’s Q30-SSD.
32GB of NAND reads 300 percent faster (53MB/s) and write 150 percent quicker (28MB/s) than normal hard drives while offering better protection against shock, 25-50% faster boots and sleep recovery times, longer battery life and reduced weight all in a completely silent, fanless package.
Pretty sweet but I expect these puppies to be niche machines for a very long time to come, HDD laptops will be the immeadiate way forward – laptops that have a small amount of flash memory such as 4 or 8 GB and a conventional hard disk for mass storage. Best of both worlds.
