This product is sheer genius, I’d have bought 2 if they were UK socket compatible. Looks like this is for USA and Canada.
After a device goes on standby this power strip will auto power it off after a while, saving you money and environmental waste. Told you it was genius.

Reliable data for energy leakage in the US were more difficult to come by, but a 1998 study commissioned by the US Department of Energy estimated that 98 million households wasted some 7.7 TWh of electrical energy. This is equivalent to 50 million (metric) tonnes of CO2, based on my VERY rough calculations from the raw numbers. Via coolest-gadgets.com

It doesn’t work quite the way you think it does. You plug one device (say your TV) into the control outlet and your “energy vampires” (say your powered speakers, VCR, and DVD players) into the switched outlets. Then when you turn the TV off, the other devices get a hard power-off. The TV will continue drawing power when it’s off, if it’s that type (most are); this device doesn’t prevent that at all.
I have one in my living room hooked up to the TV basically as described above, and another in the computer room to turn off the audio gear and one of my monitors when the other monitor sleeps.
