Fighting games come in from the wilderness

May 31st, 2006 · No Comments

Does Super DBZ, the new game from the studio of the creator of Street Fighter, hearald a return of the fighter?

It’s one sign, Street Fighter is on the rise again thanks to the move to Xbox live. King of Fighters is also gaining in popularity with a new release and a bunch of re-releases. Around the corner is the new release from one of the grandaddies of 3D fighters Tekken 5 – and later a new Virtua Figher from Sega.

I love fighters, so if they are become popular again it’s good news to me, I prefer 2D to 3D but you can’t have everything I guess.

Thankfully, Atari and its Japanese partner Namco Bandai have realized that the DBZ community is not made up solely of people who don’t care about the depth of a fighting game. The two companies went to Street Fighter creator Noritaka Funamizu and his newly created development studio, Crafts & Meister, to create what DBZ and fighting game fans have been waiting for: Super DBZ.
