Zela Twilight Princess, we all expected that for the GC. But how about a new Mario platformer? No, that one blindsided everyone.
Hang on to the suprise for a second, you’ll need it again. A new Mario 2D platformer not created by Nintendo? Yep, written by Intelligent Systems, a firm that’s been handling the Paper Mario RPGs and the DS Mario RPGs. I guess Intelligent Systems earned some Nintendo love as they are the first team outside Nintendo to be trusted to create an all action Mario platformer.

It looks insane, Paper Mario turned into an action game, mix in wireframe, 2D and 3D graphics, retro block graphics and playable Princess Peach and Bowser.
The N64s swansong was Paper Mario, released as the console died, it looks like Intelligent Systems has that position again on the GameCube.
