Victorian London - Everything you didn’t need to know but love

I think this is one of the best sites on the Internet, full of really odd Victorian information useful to about 0.01% of people. Even so, I love it.

I lived in London for three years and grew to love the place, I was stabbed once, went to Irish bars no English guy should go in as I had a load of Irish friends, was homeless for about 8 weeks and I learned how to get from point A in London to point B by walking. Something surprisingly few Londoners can do.

That said, I wouldn’t live in it again. It’s too big, crowded, dangerous and polluted. Live in it for a while but leave before it makes you hard.

The Victorian maps on this site are wonderfully evocotive of a Holmsian London but also modern day London, not much changes in a city so old. Add to that the dialogue of 18C criminals and wonderful other brikabrak I really recommend a visit for all City/London fans.
