Series five of Futurama has been announced, and there was much rejoicing.
Cruelly cancelled in 2004 after four great seasons, while unaccountably The Simpsons limps on, Futurama was my favourite show. But then they always cancel shows I like, look at the wonderful ‘Dead like me’.
Well it looks like Futurama is back from the dead. Yes this is one story that has the same number of lives as a cat, the rebirth has been claimed before a number of times before, this time it looks like it is for real. Originally the series was going to be revived by Fox, but this proved an unfounded rumour. Then an announcement was made that three feature length Futurama episodes would be made and released on DVD. Production never started though and everything hung in limbo.
Now there comes this ‘official’ announcement:
The quirky animated show from “Simpsons” creator Matt Groening was canceled by Fox about two years ago, but will return with at least 13 new episodes on Comedy Central by 2008.
This is only the second time in television history that a show sent to TV’s trash heap has been resurrected. Curiously, the first was “Family Guy,” also an animated Fox show.
Good news, everybody. ALL GLORY TO THE HYPNO-TOAD!
