Two packages, sir

June 30th, 2006 · No Comments

Yesterday I was given the task to check out the security arrangements of an ongoing project, it’s been in progress at two years that I know of, possibly longer. It involves two of the largest firms in the UK and would have an impact on everyone in the UK of working age. Yes, really. I was given under six hours to review the security of the project and decide which of these two companies had the correct solution for the circumstances. No pressure or anything then.

So anyway I did best efforts, after all that’s all you can do when thrown to the wolves in that situation, I chose a solution and talked enough people into supporting my choice that I wouldn’t go down alone. This is another sound business tactic, listen well young padawan. It’s all worked out fine - so far. Last night I was dead tired from dealing with this but pretty happy I’d done it well.

Today I had no fallout and no major piece of work dropped on me, so I chilled out at work. Today is Mario day in Europe, the ‘New Super Mario Bros’ DS game came out here today, I went out at lunch and picked it up. I’d not bothered to import it last month as we’d overspent, so I was looking forward to today. Not only that but I had two packages awaiting my when I got home to my slightly frazzled wife and over tired toddler.

One was my iSkin Claro iPod case, the other was my Faber Castell Basic Mechanical Pencil Cedar wood 0.7mm mechanical pencil and pack of Moleskine Cahier notebooks. Height of luxury my friends, height of luxury. Just sniffing the pencil is enough to get goosebumps.

I left the packages unopened on my desk, where my wife had placed them earlier. Played some Mario DS and N64 Mario Kart with my little girl, she can’t play but she loves watching as I narrate everything that’s happening. ‘Left turn coming up, through the tunnel, oh no! Banana!’. It gave my wife a break for a bit. After Robyn went to sleep an hour later I let my wife chose a treat takeaway, so I’m full of Chicken Tikka Makhanwala and naan.

Just now I got to open my two packages, you can see them above. Not a bad night, eh.
