Relaxify? Relaxify? What sort of word is that? Here’s yet another top ten list.

10. Establish uninterruptible periods.
Oh yes, tell your boss you are in an uninterruptable period when they come to speak to you. Or even a co-worker. The former is career limiting, the latter kills your work social life.

9. Personalize your space.
Good idea, but don’t overdo it. Don’t bring in a cat and a litter tray. Add your personal clutter, pictures of loved ones. If you work in IT you are contractually bound to have Dilbert strips taped to the wall nearby.

8. Add a fountain.
If you wish to lose your job. Otherwise don’t. If someone brought in a fountain I’d have them offsite so fast their head would spin. Water and unapproved electronics in a work environment filled with computers? Nope.

7. Add a portable fan.
Nice idea but request it through your purchasing, don’t bring one in. Unapproved electrical device again.

6. Get a decent chair.
If you can. Try bribing your purchaser.

5. Play relaxing music.
And disturb the rest of your office. You may as well bring in a noose at the same time, it’d save a little time for the lynching. Think of your co-workers before you do things.

4. Make it smell good.
It’s better to come in smelling good to begin with.

3. Add plants.
All good if you can. Remember to add “I don’t drink coffee” signs to your poor plants.

2. Clear out the clutter.
This can work if you like clean spaces. I do, my desk at work is nice and clear. The woman I work next to love clutter and adores hiding work among the huge piles of paperwork scattered in piles across the desk. Try it and see if it works for you. Don’t look at 9 though.
