From what I understand CR is now banned in certain web filters. (Which ones? Oddly one of the most inaccurate filters - Smartfilter - OKs CR. Ah it seems to be WebMarshal, thanks York, see below.) As it looks like this is only going to get worse as sites have to be banned for these censoring companies to carry on charging customers for updates. BoingBoing has been through this already so I’ve taken the best of those links and reprinted them here. I’m going to make a handy pocket guide for you when I can get around to it.
www.rsf.org/article.php3?id_article=15013 - Bypass
www.boingboing.net/2005/12/20/firewall_workaround_.html - Google Workaround
www.bloglines.com/ - Proxy
www.peacefire.org/circumventor/simple-circumventor-instructions.html - Proxy
tor.eff.org/ - Distributed proxy
www.samair.ru/proxy/ - Proxy list, includes the useful www.daveproxy.co.uk/
www.publicproxyservers.com/ - Proxy list
thinkabdul.com/2006/02/26/bypassing-company-proxies-and-filters/ - Bypass
censorware.net/ - Various resources on bypass and proxies and the filters
So it’s WebMarshal that is doing the blocking, I shall find out more and add to this later.
