I really do try and avoid parroting other sites these days but this news has sent me into spasms of fan boy delight. One of my favourite games might be made into a movie by one of my favourite directors; Grim Fandango by Tim Burton. A match made in grave yards, curls and shots of the moon.

Sounds too good to be true? Well yes and that might well be the case. This is very much an unconfirmed Internet rumour. Which makes it true, of course. True enough to spread round the net faster than VD from a pretty cheerleader.

Well, I’m currently working on Sweeny Todd , which will be released in mid-2007. After that, I’m going to start working on a new script that was sent to me recently: Grim Fandango. It sort of follows the style of The nightmare before Christmas and Corpse Bride. It’s about a surreal land of the dead, some sort of purgatory where everyone goes when they die. In that place, dead people have to make a four-year transition before they can rest in peace for all the eternity. I still don’t know when we’re going to start filming this, though. Via
For the unintiated you should read the Wiki post on Grim Fandango.
Grim Fandango is a graphical adventure computer game released by LucasArts in 1998, … It is the first adventure game by LucasArts to use three-dimensional graphics, as it runs in the GrimE engine. Grim Fandango was lauded by critics and adventure game fans as one of the best games in the genre and beyond … but was not a commercial success.
…
Unusually, the game combines this mythical underworld with 1930s Art Deco design motifs and a dark plot reminiscent of the film noir genre. Manny, whose job combines the roles of Grim Reaper and travel agent, turns detective when he discovers that deserving souls are being denied their rightful post-mortem reward of direct travel to Mictlan, bypassing the four-year trip that all other souls must take. Manny’s investigations draw him into a tangled web of corruption, deceit, and murder.
The style of the artwork in the game is unique and very attractive, even now, the sound too derserves a special mention. Lucasarts still sells Grim Fandango (Hm, actually I couldn’t find it on there website, maybe they don’t anymore, can anyone else see it?) so you can’t pick this up on abandonware sites, but I reccomend you buy it if you like adventures even in the slightest.
Grim Fandango would be in my top 5 favourite games.
