This is quite simply the best mouse going. The Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse, it’s an ergonomic optical mouse with no useless buttons, bells or whistles. If someone were to ask me what mouse to buy it would be this one - you just can’t go wrong with it.

It’s cheap to - froogle it, some of these are sold for five dollars - and it performs as good as any other optical mouse going, and they are tough. Seriously tough. I’ve had a bunch of these myself and handled many more in work and none of these have failed even under the harshest treatment. Of all the things Microsoft have ever done they got this one just right - the classic mouse.

Now that I have that out of my system have a look at the latest Apple Mighty Mouse:

It looks so cool and I want one. Sorry classic mouse. I know the Apple Mighty Mouse can take a little getting used to as it is so smooth and the buttons are ‘hidden’. I know the trackball can get dirt in it. I know. But damn it looks good and I could do with a cordless mouse.

I’m so tempted … anyone got one of these yet? Is it worth it?

If you want a really tough cheap and top quality mouse buy Microsoft’s Basic Optical Mouse. It’s the Toyota truck of the mouse world, everyone can handle it and it just keeps on going no matter what happens.

If you’re flush with cash and you have a bluetooth enabled laptop then go for the new Apple bluetooth Mighty Mouse. A high strung Ferrari of a mouse, expensive, beautiful and it even has a trackball; but not everyone can handle a Ferrari. Treat it well and it’ll run, any mishandling and kiss your expensive mouse goodbye.
