Sex Ed Changes At School With 65 Pregnant Teens

August 17th, 2006 · No Comments

‘Just say no’ doesn’t work. You know what works when it comes to teaching children about sex? Education. Lots of education. Not just one hour during high school but a year on year program, scaling in appropriate detail with the age of the kids. One school’s found out the hard way that a lack of education just leads to problems:

An Ohio school board is expanding sex education following the revelation that 13 percent of one high school’s female students were pregnant last year.

There were 490 female students at Timken High School in 2005, and 65 were pregnant

Non of the girls in my high school got pregnant, only one in my wife’s high school. That’s a big difference to 65. Parents should be taking responsibility for teaching their kids, backed up by the school system. It’s really poor when both the parents and the school fails in such a huge way. I know that we’re going to teach our daughter age appropriate lessons about sex, health and responsibility.
