Cross site searching has come into its own a lot more during 2006. Sites are less insular now, I’ve been noticing less of the awful ‘join to download’ or ‘join to get the password’, ‘keep your ratio at 1:3 and win a giraffe!’. So the current best sites for torrents right now?

http://www.scrapetorrent.com/ – This hit Digg today, sparking this post and causing a lot of problems for the web site. Wait a couple of days for the digg traffic to vanish.

http://torrent-finder.com/ – Searches loads of sites, could be good but it has one huge drawback – the results are spread across loads of pages and it’s so slow to use.

http://torrentscan.com/ – Can search many sites but only one at a time. Design flaws R US.

http://torrentstart.com/ – See above.

http://www.torrentspy.com/ – Not bad at all but has adult ads.

http://www.torrentz.com/ – Simple, fast, works. Need anything else?

http://thepiratebay.org/ – The 300lb gorrila torrent site. Who’s ya daddy? Solo site, English content takes a back seat.

http://btjunkie.org – Speedy, good results and clear seed health guide.

http://www.mininova.org/ – Slow but uber site, if it is working. mininova seems overloaded a lot these days.

http://www.novatina.com/ (bitenova.nl) – Good response and results. Lots of torrents but not vast numbers of seeds, you have to be quick in downloading.

http://newnova.org – Pale imitation of supranova.org, a pain to navigate and no torrent details.

My recommendations? For the current best of the best use http://www.torrentz.com/. A surprise runner up, a suprise to me as I’d not seen it before, http://btjunkie.org.

No go play nice kids and only download legal stuff. Yadda etc. Anyway, at least download stuff that is dropping out of copyright like old Warner cartoons, Popeye and Disney.
