I can imagine this is going to come in useful with a 2 yr old on a 9 hour flight. If you have any entertainment ideas do please let me know.

Thanks Anthony, I’m going to look into a Travel Magna Doodle.

This has bouncing around the baby blogs quite a bit in the past few days.
Having recently taken a trip to Halifax from Vancouver (travel time: 6am in Vancouver until 10pm in Halifax ~12 hours after you account for the time zones) with an 18 month-old, I’ve been following with some interest.
I have to say that for us, a few things kept us sane.
1) A Magna Doodle. This kept him occupied for much longer than I expected! Frankly, it kept him busier than (3), below.
2) Small board books. A favourite of his anyway.
3) The video iPod. We bought an external battery (Belkin TunePower) which gives us something like 8 hours video playback. We loaded a bunch of VeggieTales and Backyardigans on to it, and used some noise cancelling headphones. My wife refers to this arrangement as “Baby Crack”, but it’s more like baby Valium.
4) Those refillable juice boxes. Since we couldn’t bring juice on the plane with us, we brought a couple of the refillable juice boxes, empty, and when the drinks cart came along, we asked the flight attendant to fill one up. Those, and the snacks we’d packed, kept him from getting too fussy.
Good luck on your flight! We’re back to Vancouver in a week, and I see your timer is almost there — nothing like getting to Vancouver in time for the rainy season!
