Off out to see how easy it is to buy Nintendo’s Wii here in Vancouver. Back later.
Update 5: The tip worked out fine, HMV had 13 Wii’s in this morning (minus the ones gone to staff) and 13 people were queing up to get one. Talk about good numbers …
So I’ve spent the afternoon on the Wii, playing sports, Red Steel and the first 10 minutes of Zelda. Mrs JD beat me at bowling which was fun and it showed how easy the Wii is to pick up for non-gamers.
Picked up a classic controller and Paper Mario 2, but forgot to get a GameCube controller, d’oh.

Update 4:I passed some shops later in the day and checked on accessories, none, nada, zero zilch. Games were going quick too so I bought Zelda and Red Steel. Oh and a Wii 2000 points card.
Update 3: A second tip about a big store getting some Wii’s in on Monday. I’m not posting the store location as I’ll be heading down there in the morning, so if you want to know email or IM me.
Update 2: The tip paid off, Sears.ca is still selling the Wii, delivery by 25th November. Not bad, my component cables ordered from Nintendo.com don’t arrive until the 29th. Least I know I’ll get a Wii this week for sure. Good job too considering I bought a new 499 dollar HDMI LCD TV to play the Wii on, 480p yummy.
Update 1: I really underestimated just how big the Wii was going to be. The queue at Futureshop in central Vancouver went back a whole block and round the corner. A lot of stores had sold out before even opening. It’s been crazy. It was all good natured, I saw no problems at any of the four stores I checked out. I came home and called another 2 and the line was ‘We have no idea when we’ll get more stock in, but it will be before Christmas.’ Not good enough; then I got a tip …

Well I picked one up at HMV and I think Sears has shipped my order. If you want to buy the Sears one – if it arrives – let me know and we can sort it.
It should have arrived yesterday but I’m out of the city right now so I’ve no idea if it did or not.
I’ve still not seen any accessories for sale but I’ve all the games I wanted from launch.

And, of course, Sears has cancelled the order. :( Apparently Best Buy had 90 today — my wife went down before it opened, but the queue started at 4am! Not looking good for Christmas.

I think the accessories are less of a problem, my nearest Futureshop on W Broadway has a load of accessories left, and games come to that. Just no Wii.
Glad you got one :)

Dude. Excellent. Still available when I visited now. I can wait until the 25th. But what’s up with no nunchucks in stock?

It was way more insane that I had bargained for, the queue at futureshop went back a block and round the corner, so no I didn’t.
But
If you want one place an order at sears.ca, they deliver by the 25th Nov. Not that many left by now I imagine so get ordering. I’ve placed my order just in case no where manages to restock between now and then. I’ll buy one when I see it and ebay (or sell via CR) the other Wii.

Did you get one? The local Best Buy (Cambie St) and Toys’R'Us (Broadway) were sold out before opening (ie they had lines, and issued tickets to everyone up to the number of units they had. I wasn’t willing to a) drive somewhere and b) line up so … well, we didn’t get one. An invigorating walk in the rain, though!
Word is that the next shipment will be pretty soon, so we might get one by Christmas.
