Website host move nightmare

January 31st, 2008 · No Comments

I have had so much downtime from moving hosts that it is untrue. I’m sorry about the site failures that have been happening since Friday.

This is going to turn into a review / rant about Hostican, the hosting provider I moved to. This is my personal experience of them:

Pretty much as soon as I moved to just one of my websites over to Hostican I ran into trouble, they seemed unable to host my site. They said it used too much CPU/Memory time and it was kept down by them, an automatic process, for long periods of time.

This is a WordPress site, it does not use excessive CPU or Memory. I use WP-Cache, cut down the posts on the front page, took out plugins. Still no use.

Hostican offers huge diskspace and bandwidth and now I know how they can do it. No-one can put a site on one of there shared servers that does anything. A static HTML page maybe. But a site? No chance.

Complete waste of my time and money, which I’m in the process of getting back from them.

My personal advice to you is to avoid using Hostican at all costs. It was painful for me.

I’m now about to try another host, Hostgator. Wish me luck!
