Review of Troy

May 16th, 2004 · No Comments

Went to see a Troy preview last night. As if you didn’t know, Troy is based on Homer’s The Iliad, Troy begins with Achilles (Brad Pitt) killing the opposing army’s strongest man in one blow of the sword.

After the world’s briefest of truces Agamemnon gathers the armies of Greece and sails for Troy in a bid to enlarge the Greek empire even more; but on the pretext of Paris (Orlando Bloom) capturing his brothers wife, Helen (Diane Kruger).

The ten years of siege goes out of the hollywood window and the action seems to take place over three days. The short IRC review is as follows:

[11:36] {Jackdaw} pff
[11:36] {Jackdaw} you work too much
[11:37] {[Tuba]Locutus} I know
[11:37] {[Tuba]Locutus} it¥s not because I love to do it
[11:37] {[Tuba]Locutus} that¥s for sure
[11:37] {Jackdaw} btw troy is bad
[11:37] {[Tuba]Locutus} at least the money I earn on this case is mine
[11:38] {[Tuba]Locutus} heh what a surprise :D
[11:38] {Jackdaw} yer no kidding
[11:38] {Jackdaw} mrs turned to me part way through and said ‘we could leave and just dld it someday’
[11:39] {Jackdaw} and her closing comment was ‘worst film since godzilla’ :D
[11:40] {[Tuba]Locutus} lol
[11:40] {[Tuba]Locutus} apparently not even pitt in a skirt could make her stay
[11:40] {[Tuba]Locutus} says it all really
[11:40] {Jackdaw} yup
[11:41] {Jackdaw} he plays basically the angel of death, nothing can seemingly kill him; so a wooden character like neo
[11:41] {Jackdaw} and even his wooden acting is wooden
[11:41] {Jackdaw} soooo bad
[11:41] {[Tuba]Locutus} which character is he supposed to be?
[11:41] {Jackdaw} acillies (sp)
[11:42] {Jackdaw} one scene he plays oppostie peter o toole, who is really good in it, and pitt comes off looking like a bumbling amateur
[11:43] {– JJ has quit (Signed off)
[11:43] {[Tuba]Locutus} lol
[11:44] {Jackdaw} one of the best movie scenes ever as it shows had bad this generations hollywood stars can be
[11:45] {[Tuba]Locutus} I won¥t watch it in the cinema, that¥s for sure
[11:45] {– Omni|out has quit (Ping timeout)
[11:48] {[Tuba]Locutus} I haven¥t seen a decent movie in the cinema for quite a while
[11:48] {[Tuba]Locutus} I think last I watched that was not THAT bad was die another day
[11:48] {[Tuba]Locutus} and that sucked
[11:48] {Sktsh`} kill bill vol2 :(
[11:48] {Jackdaw} yer true
[11:49] {[Tuba]Locutus} I haven¥t seen kill bill 2
[11:49] {Jackdaw} kill bill 2 was good
[11:49] {Jackdaw} as it was movie fast food
[11:50] {[Tuba]Locutus} hehe

[12:11] {Jackdaw} the visuals were good though, 199.5 mill on visuals, .4 mill on pitts hair, .1 mill script development

Radiation Rides: Chernobyl

March 6th, 2004 · No Comments

PRIPYAT ghost town (1970-1986)

This website is one of the best I’ve been to.

Adside: ‘Been to’? Sorry, I meant seen. The implication was that I’ve seen the hosting sever and said hello to the hard disk. It never said Hi back, and it doesn’t write. I feel so used.

The English on ‘MY CHERNOBYL RIDES’ is dire, the pictures badly compressed and the page layout basic. Content is King. If ever a website underlines that statement, it is this one.

Learn, all of you with flash based sites and no real content, learn.

This is a great site, edited now she has a wider audience; also note it skips from page 15 to 17, type in the URL to get to 16.

I know I said the English is dire but it fits the site content and style, the best line is “I don’t know how sound the silence to those tourists that they can not stand it, but to me after hitting a red line on my bike tacho it sound like all those ghosts cursing 1100cc kawasaki engin.”

It’s hosted on angelfire so might die at anytime so I saved a backup. Contact me if you want the rar file, 1.93MB.

This was one of the worst disasters in modern times, we felt the effects here in England, the rad count went way up. Certain food was destroyed due to the radiation poisoning, sheep for example became unfit for consumption.

Wierd seeing the deserted city …

Bill Hicks

February 23rd, 2004 · No Comments

BBC NEWS | Magazine | Bill Hicks: Why the fuss, exactly?

Bill Hicks. A comedic evangelist who stood up for what he believed in and yelled at those he saw as getting it wrong. It just so happens I thought in a similar way to a lot of the stuff he was coming out with; smoking wasn’t one of them.

I was introduced to Bill’s work a year or so before his death while I was at university. It was a breath of fresh air, fantastic and unbleamished, unlike the falseness of Leary.

The BBC’s piece isn’t much good, though the BBC’s news pages are pretty dire at the moment anyway, but it does highlight how far Bill’s reached after his death. Pretty amazing.

10 Years ago today, rest in peace, Bill Hicks.
